No, the ZeroWater® TDS Meter measures Total Dissolved Solids and is not intended to measure Lead levels.
"UKLead is generally not present in the wider public water supply network in the UK but may be present in houses built before 1970 that have lead pipework carrying the water around the house. The UK has a standard threshold of 10μg/l.USAThe EPA has established a maximum threshold of 15 ppb for lead content in tap water. ZeroWater® filtration is certified to meet these requirements."
The TDS meter included provides a reading of Total Dissolved Solids in Parts Per Million, ppm.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) are non-organic impurities found in water, which contribute to a difference in the taste of water. Dissolved Solids enter our water supply through old piping, run-offs from road salts, pesticides, fertilizers and more.
Due to its 5-stage filtration system working much harder than conventional 2-stage filters, the filtration will be slightly slower although it removes more contaminants.
Once the filter reaches end of life, you may experience an acidic or slightly fishy smell/taste in the water. As indicated in our instructions, once the digital meter reaches 006 or the light indicator lights up (depending on which was included in your device) you should discontinue the use of the expired filter and replace it. Our filtration has an end of life indication whereas standard filters do not. Continued use of the filter, after it expires, will only further deteriorate the ion beads and a reduction in pH may occur. The reduction in pH is not dangerous but there is a chance under extreme filter exhaustion that the pH levels may be reduced low enough to where you will experience a taste difference in the water, occurring at a meter reading below 1 or 2. We cannot determine if the filter failed prematurely as we have no indication of your tap water quality (all water is different and we have no way of knowing the specific properties in everyone’s water) nor your daily water consumption. Since the quality of tap water varies the reduction in pH, when your filter has reached the point of exhaustion, can vary as well.
Most Household Waste & Recycling Centres in the Europe accept used filters for recycling. Filters should be disposed of in the plastic recycling skips and will then be reprocessed and turned into other products such as garden furniture. Please also check with your local authority first.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

• Most conventional water filter jugs use 2 stage water filters whereas ZeroWater® water filter jugs use a patented FIVE stage filter.
• ZeroWater® filters use Ion Exchange Technology as opposed to a simple carbon only water filter.
• ZeroWater® filters remove virtually all (99.6%) of the detectable dissolved solids while leading brands remove only up to 50%.
The ZeroWater® Ion Exchange Filter consist of 5 stages that combine patented technologies to removes organic and inorganic contaminants in the water, providing the only filtered water that has as few Dissolved Solids as purified bottled water.
We do not offer a full house or under-counter ZeroWater® filter system. Our 10-cup and 12-cup water filter jugs and our 23 cup water filter dispenser all have a convenient, one handed filler that can be used straight from the fridge without having to remove the water filter though.
Even if the service provider were able to clean water to the extent that ZeroWater® does, the water can pick up chemicals on its way from the treatment plant to the tap or from pipework in your home, which gives tap water that typical taste. ZeroWater® tastes crisp and refreshing.
If you have well water, it is the owner's responsibility to have the well inspected and tested for a variety of substances including microbiological contaminants. Once the well has been approved for drinking, ZeroWater® works with well water the same way it does with any other tap water.
ZeroWater® water filters produce the only filtered water that meets the definition for TDS in purified bottled water. So you get purified-quality water without the plastic bottles or the high cost. ZeroWater® units can cost as little as 10p in UK per litre to have purified-quality water.
ZeroWater® filters produce water that is a similar purity level to that produced from an RO system. Our systems also don't waste any water and operate based on gravity. In addition, they do not need to be installed into your plumbing.
Distilled water involves the process of boiling the water, transferring the steam to another container were the vapors are condensed and everything that doesn't evaporate will remain in the first container. Impurities that evaporate will be in the water in the second container. While ZeroWater uses the process of deionization which involves filtering the water. The ion exchange beads in the filter takes the ions or minerals out of the water. People usually say that distilled water can taste flat whereas ZeroWater is described as crisp and refreshing. Distillation also requires electricity and takes hours to treat water.
Our water gives you the same quality as distilled, without the electricity or hassle of transporting the water back home from the shop.
Unless your RO unit is specifically designed for bacteria with a UV light or an ozone generator, for example, your RO membrane will quickly be filled with a bacteria biofilm if you have a bacteria problem. The ZeroWater® systems currently sold do not have the capability to remove bacteria.
Water softening systems exchange sodium or potassium with calcium to avoid calcium buildup and allow soaps to lather better. They are not meant to improve the taste of drinking water.
Deionized water has had all the dissolved inorganics (or ions) removed. Typically, about 95% of known water contaminants are dissolved inorganics. So, processes that remove ions can potentially remove up to about 95% of all the contaminants. The ion exchange process takes advantage of the fact that all ions have either a positive or negative charge. Ion exchange resin has an attraction for these dissolved inorganics. The ion exchange resin is made of tiny polymeric beads – about the size of a grain of sand. It is called mixed bed because two types of beads are mixed together. The surface of the cation beads contain hydrogen ions (positive charge). The surface of the anion beads contain hydroxide ions (negative charge). The resin works by exchanging contaminant ions in the water with the hydrogen and hydroxide ions. The contaminants attach to the beads while the hydrogen and hydroxide are released into the water. These two ions combine together to produce H2O.

WHAT DOES IT REMOVE?

How-long-will-the-ZeroWater-Filter-last

Today's water filtering technologies cannot discriminate between bad chemicals and good minerals that could be present in the water, the filter removes all of these. Many nutritionists recommend that you receive essential vitamins and minerals from a well-balanced diet, and not necessarily from water alone.
ZeroWater® is certified to reduce lead below the standards as set by UK Water Services Providers (10μg/l). ZeroWater® is the only gravity fed pour through device certified in this category for lead reduction.
ZeroWater® filters have been independently tested to reduce pharmaceuticals from your tap water.
PVC is a type of plastic and doesn't leach out of the plastic into our water filter systems. Since our systems are certified by NSF and have passed leach tests, there can't be any plastic particles in our water.
Our filters have been independently tested by an EPA certified lab for the reduction of fluoride with an overall reduction percentage of 99%.
ZeroWater® filters and jugs have materials commonly used in the industry to treat Uranium. ZeroWater® filters and jugs have not been tested due to the high levels of Uranium required for testing.
Our water filters and jugs have been independently tested by an EPA certified lab for the reduction of Arsenic with an overall reduction percentage of 99%.
ZeroWater® filters and jugs have been independently tested to reduce Chloramine. However, the presence of Chloramine can reduce the expected life of the filter, so if you have Chloramine in your water, you may need to change your filter more often than normal.
At this point ZeroWater® filters have not been tested for the removal of Phenol.
At this point ZeroWater® filters have not been tested for the removal of Cryptosporidium (microbiological cysts).
The current ZeroWater® water filter system is meant to be used with water treated by your local service provider, as the current ZeroWater® water filter will not remove microbiological contaminants.
The ZeroWater® water filters and jugs do not remove dissolved Oxygen from water.
Yes, ZeroWater® water filters are NSF certified to reduce Chromium 6 by 99.7%

TROUBLESHOOTING

In order to get a perfect 000, there must be a complete seal when the ZeroWater® water filter is screwed in to prevent any contamination. Ensure that the ZeroWater® water filter is threaded correctly (watch for cross-threading) and fully seated in the water reservoir. Confirm that the blue rubber O-ring is present between the ZeroWater® water filter and reservoir and has not gotten stuck in any of the threads.
When the filtered water tastes acidic or fishy the filter has reached the point of exhaustion and must be replaced. Filter life varies per household - it depends on your household water consumption and the amount of TDS (total dissolved solids) in your tap water (water chemistry varies by source and how it’s treated locally by your town or municipality). Please refer to the chart (under the question how long will my filter last) on the FAQ page to determine how many gallons you will get per filter. It is important that you periodically test your filtered water with your water quality meter and when the meter reads 006 or higher the filter should be replaced.
Some brand new filters can let fine carbon particles into the water due to the way they've settled. This is completely safe and can be fixed by flushing the system until the water is clear.
The carbon inside the filter is rinsed with purified water before it is packed. Sometimes, this can cause condensation inside the bag/lid, which is harmless.
The water travels through 5 stages in order to bring your water down to 000. Most other water filters use only 1-2 stages which is why their water can't reach 000. The slow flow of the water lets you know that the water is properly passing through each stage.
Unlike other popular water filters, our ZeroWater® water filters do not need to be soaked. However, it is a good idea to pour a few cups through to be sure your water is clear and reading 000.
Please contact us on info@zerowater.ee so we can troubleshoot the problem with your water filter jug and provide you with the appropriate replacement part. Please do not throw away your lid or your reservoir as they are still in working condition.
"Digital Meter ‐ Press the on/off button if the LCD screen shows no reading then the batteries may need to be replaced. Remove the end of the meter and replace with (2) 357A or (2) LR44. Light Indicator ‐ If you have a light indicator submerge about one inch into tap water (not filtered ZW). If it does not light up, the battery is probably dead. If you have a Light Indicator with an on/off button, repeat the same steps as you push and hold the on/off button while submerged. To replace the battery, remove the end of the meter/indicator and replace with (3) AG3."

FILTRATION / FILTER LIFE

How-long-will-the-ZeroWater-Filter-last

Filter life varies per household. The filter life depends on the amount of TDS (total dissolved solids) in your unfiltered water and household water consumption (water chemistry varies by source and how it’s treated locally by your town or municipality). Please refer to the chart (under the question how long will my filter last) on the FAQ page to determine how many gallons you will get per filter. It is important that you periodically test your filtered water with your water quality meter and when the meter reads 006 or higher the filter should be replaced. It is strongly recommended that the reading not go past that point. Unlike conventional filters, you many notice a difference in taste or smell when the ZeroWater® filter has reached end of life. We highly recommend you change your filter at this point.
• It is a 5 stage filter which is more comprehensive than conventional 2 stage filters
• Ion Exchange Technology as opposed to simple carbon only
• Removes virtually all (99.6%) detectable dissolved solids while leading brands removes up to 50%
The life of the ZeroWater® filter depends on the TDS going in, not whether your water is from a well, a spring, or a municipality. Before using your well water with our system, be sure to have it tested.
The ZeroWater® system contains specific materials which inhibit the growth of bacteria within the cartridge.
ZeroWater® filters are made of BPA Free Polypropylene. ZeroWater® devices are made of BPA Free Polypropylene and ABS.

CERTIFICATIONS

The ZeroWater® Pitcher and filters are certified by NSF International for standards 42 and 53.

ZeroWater® TDS METER

How-long-will-the-ZeroWater-Filter-last

No, the ZeroWater® TDS Meter measures Total Dissolved Solids and is not intended to measure Lead levels.

Today's water filtering technologies cannot discriminate between bad chemicals and good minerals that could be present in the water, the filter removes all of these. Many nutritionists recommend that you receive essential vitamins and minerals from a well-balanced diet, and not necessarily from water alone.
The TDS meter that comes with your system is provided so that you can measure your TDS on an ongoing basis - perhaps every other day. This is especially important if you have high TDS water (over 300), as your filter will need to be changed more often. By using the TDS meter to frequently measure your filtered water, you will know it is time for a filter change before it has gone too far past 006
They take either 2 - 357A, 2-LR44 or 3-AG3 batteries which can be found anywhere you would buy a watch battery.
The TDS Meter cannot detect uncharged particles such as organic contaminants. It also cannot detect undissolved particles such as bacteria.
TDS levels change in hot or cold water from the same tap because containments dissolve easily in warmer water which leads to a higher reading. The TDS meter corrects for temperature, but if the water is too hot it will give artificially high values. In general, the most accurate reading will be at or near room temperature.
